Chapel of San Román

Located some 3 Km. from Aoiz on the Path to Guendulain. A small, recently restored building of interest more for historical rather than artistic reasons, as this was the place at which the peace treaty between the Agramonteses and the Beaumonteses was signed in 1479, the two rivals driving their swords into the ground. The treaty was signed by Marquis Pedro de Navarra on behalf of the Agramonteses and by the Count of LerÌn, Luis de Beaumont, for the Beaumonteses.

The event gave way to the coats of arms of Aoiz and elevated the village to the category of Burgh with seat in the Courts, as part of the estate of burghers, and its population to became burghers, exempt from trading duty and of all obligations.

Considering that through divine grace, the peace and rest of this kingdom was agreed,
concluded and signed in the Burgh of Aoiz
