Medieval bridge Bidelepu

A beautiful bridge of slender form and sturdy construction over the River Irati, it is lightened by four semicircular arches. The road crossing it consists of two sloping planes which join at the central vertex. Its columns have withstood eight centuries of surging waters and, in the last century, the powerful blows delivered by timber transported by river with flood waters.

“For several centuries, it has been witness to the arrival of loose trunks to calmer waters where the rafters arduously set to the task of joining the trunks for each section of their rafts.”
